54cm BMC SLR01 Di2 Quarq 2015
|Seller: MFB |
Starting bid/Asking Price=$5000.00
Getting a WorldTour bike right out of a box is easy with the BMC Teammachine SLR01. This Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 version is what the BMC team members choose to ride most days and most races, with the only difference being the practical Shimano WH-9000 C24-CL clincher wheelset.
The WH-9000 C24-CL, aka the Dura-Ace wheel, is aero thanks to the low spoke count and light thanks to a hybrid aluminum skeleton wrapped with carbon-fiber. You get an aluminum braking surface for reliable all-weather braking and carbon-fiber reinforcements to keep the rim strong and light. The team trains on them, but they're raced by people who don't have mechanics gluing tires for them.
Otherwise, this bike could have been stolen off the team truck. The full electronic Di2 group is here, along with the internal battery. The bar and stem are from 3T. The saddle is Fizik's Arione R3 with the braided carbon-fiber rails.
The heart of the bike is the SLR01 Teammachine. After only a year in the pro peloton, the frame has exceeded the hype that came with its introduction. When BMC totally scrapped the 2013 SLR01 in favor of building a new one from scratch, they started with what they learned about building the old SLR01, added insights from their professional race team, and then used an advanced modeling program, Accelerated Composites Evolution Technology, ACE for short, to bridge from what the old frame was to what the new frame should be. The team wanted lighter, as pro's always do, and stiffer, as pro's always do, as well as more comfortable. Shaping changed, material changed, the geometry stayed the same, and everything improved. The new one is lighter, as 790g for a 56cm frame, 30% stiffer, and 10% more vertically compliant.
For the compliance, they found a new way to shape seat stays that allowed for more vertical give while doing a better job resisting lateral forces. They also redesigned the seat tube (and proprietary seat post), so the post could flex to the aft. For stiffness, they switched to a BB86 bottom bracket, which also helped reduce weight. Likewise, they tapered the steerer tube from 1 1/8" to 1 1/2" while working a reverse taper on the head tube, wider at the top, for more steering precision.
If you want to feel what it means to pilot a top-level team bike, the BMC Teammachine SLR01 with Dura-Ace Di2, is set up to that exacting specification.
